MonadeOfficials - "THE DANISH GIRL"

My Autum/ Winter 2024 mini Collektion was inspired by the biographical drama film „The Danish Girl“ directed by Tom Hooper.

It tells the story of Danish artist Einar Wegener, who later transitions into Lili Elbe, one of the earliest individuals to undergo gender reassignment surgery. The film chronicles Einar‘s path of self-discovery and gender transformation, with the support of his wife Gerda Wegener. As Einar embraces his true identity as Lili, Gerda embarks on her own emotional journey. „The Danish Girl“ delves into themes of identity, love, and the intricacies of gender within a society struggling to comprehend and accept such profound changes.

The story has left a significant impact not only in the art world but also in LGBTQ+ history by raising awareness about transgender issues in society.

However, in many cases, such narratives don't conclude in the desired manner. Individuals often lose loved ones or encounter societal rejection and lack of support. Personally, I was born into a family where discussing such topics was strictly prohibited. This circumstance has consistently piqued my interest in this subject, both on a professional and personal level. Through my collection, I've endeavored to portray the uplifting aspects of this narrative, the transformative journey from man to woman and Gerda Wegener’s art, such as mutual support, understanding, and acceptance among people.

The distinctive aspect of my collection is its 100% sustainability and has no waste . I utilized Woolmark material for my patchwork, and the leftover fabrics and threads were repurposed for my second look. This implies that half of my collection is upcycled.
